Hello everyone. I thought I'd start a thread to get the conversation going.

The BBC are introducing a new typeface or font across the organisation. It's been introduced to BBC Sport's graphics, at least on Final Score and Match of the Day for now, but will presumably make its way to other services shortly.

Do you think BBC News should adopt this new typeface across its TV and online services? Or should they stick with the combination of Gill Sans (in the logo) and Helvetica?

I think they should adopt Reith. However, I'm not keen on how it looks online. On-screen it looks absolutely lovely.

Yeah it took time to get used to it on the BBC Sport homepage. I wasn't that keen on them using it for everything on the one page at first. I'm not sure if it'll work on the BBC News homepage, but again I'll probably get used to it.

I thought the font used for graphics was Swiss?

I think ultimately the idea of Reith is for it to be used as widely as possible. The implementation by BBC Sport shows how it work, but I'm sure they can make it look rubbish if they try hard enough.

Ah, I always get confused between Arial, Helvetica and Swiss. (I'm not good with names!)

I personally would like to see News adopt Reith Serif. I like the use of serif on DW News:

Surely that's serif, not sans serif?

Personally, I think that they should adopt it, but only if they ensure it's well integrated. I'm not sure the current look would suit the change.
